From October 2021, the Sir John Monash Centre will offer all school groups the opportunity to enrich and enhance the traditional visit to the Centre with bilingual activities and multidisciplinary activities.

For primary school classes, a visit to the Sir John Monash Centre consists of:

  • Visit the Sir John Monash Centre galleries: guided tour with the SJMC team or self-guided tour with the Digger Quest app.
  • Hands on activities led by the Centre’s team: discover the adventures of Private Valentine Rochfort.
  • New! Bilingual activities: to combine history and language through a brief introduction to French or a fully immersive activity, our team will integrate French into the visit of the Centre and adapt the level of the activity to your class and its curriculum. Ask the team about the bilingual activities we offer when you book your visit.
  • New! Multidisciplinary activities: The Sir John Monash Centre team also offers complementary activities to enrich your students’ experience and allow them to discover various aspects of modern Australia. When booking, our team will be able to provide further information on the various multi-disciplinary activities we offer including subjects such as geography, art and science.

For middle and high school classes:

  • Visit to the Australian National Memorial and Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery: guided tour by a member of the SJMC team or self-guided tour with the Sir John Monash Centre application.
  • Visit of the Sir John Monash Centre galleries: self-guided tour with the Sir John Monash Centre app. Seven themes are covered in the interpretive galleries: Australia before the war, Why did Australians volunteer to go to war, Major Battles, The Experience of War, Away from Home, The Home Front and Fates. Students will learn about Australia’s history on the Western Front by hearing the untold stories of men and women who served. The Centre’s technology allows students to visit the Centre independently, tailoring their visit to their interests and meeting curriculum objectives.
  • Hands on activities with the Centre’s team: analyse objects and archives to identify an Australian soldier.
