Summer Workshops at the Sir John Monash Centre

News

Posted on 26 June 2023

This summer, the Sir John Monash Centre is offering two free workshops on 12 July and 23 August 2023 relating to the memory of the Australians on the Western Front.

Cuddly Toy Workshop

During the war, many children took the time to create rag dolls and stuffed toys for their fathers and brothers serving in the First World War. The dolls helped raise morale and were generally given to soldiers on their departure or sent through the post.

The Sir John Monash Centre invites you and your family to the Centre to make your own cuddly toy with local artist La Fée Lulu.

The Tapestry Creation Workshop

Hanging in the Sir John Monash Centre’s foyer, and created by the Australian Tapestry Workshop, the Morning Star Tapestry depicts the bush in a winter landscape. It is interwoven with representations of the embarkation and journey of the 295,000 Australians who served on the other side of the world during the First World War.

The Sir John Monash Centre is holding a tapestry workshop, with local artist Emilie Poteau from the “Une Pâquerette dans les Cheveux” workshop where you can create your own remembrance flower tapestry.
