Summer Workshops at the Sir John Monash Centre

As every year, we are hosting a series of workshops during the summer period.

Bakery Workshops

During the First World War, people at home in Australia often sent parcels to the Anzac troops to show their support. Many care packages included biscuits made from rolled oats, golden syrup and flour, which had a high nutritional value and kept well while being transported overseas. Now known as Anzac biscuits, they’re still popular in Australia today.

The Sir John Monash Centre invites you to a workshop to learn how to make your own Anzac biscuits and Lamington cakes, another Australian delicacy.

Scrapbooking – Creating a Remembrance Card

Receiving letters and parcels was an incredible morale booster for troops on the Western Front, and a critical lifeline to the world they left behind.

In this creative workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to design your own remembrance card in tribute to a soldier, and decorate it with dried flowers from the Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, and other decorative items!

Remembrance decoration Workshop

In Australia and other Commonwealth countries, the red poppy is recognised as the flower of remembrance while in France it is the cornflower, which, like the poppy, continued to grow on land devastated by heavy shelling.

With local artist La fée Lulu”, create your own decorations inspired by Australian remembrance traditions.
