Vignacourt 14-18 – The Lost Diggers of Vignacourt

A few dozen kilometres behind the Western Front stands the village of Vignacourt. It was here that Louis and Antoinette Thuillier, a farming couple with a passion for photography, immortalised the portraits of many of their visitors. Thought to be lost after the War these photo were rediscovered in in 2011 and since 2014, have been displayed in the Vignacourt 14-18 Interpretation Centre enabling visitors to discover the portraits of these men from around the world.

The New Zealand Liberation Museum – Te Arawhata

Just a hundred kilometres north-east of Villers-Bretonneux lies the fortified town of Le Quesnoy. The town may not be familiar to Australians, but its fate was nonetheless closely linked to that of the ANZAC soldiers, as it was the New Zealanders who liberated the town after four years of German occupation. Today, the New Zealand Liberation Museum – Te Arawhata tells this incredible story.

A Bailey Bridge and a Memorial Garden in Amiens

On 24 April 2024, to coincide with Anzac Day, the city of Amiens inaugurated a Bailey bridge designed to share the memory of the Australian soldiers of the Australian Imperial Force which prevented the capture of the city during the German offensives of 1918.

Remembering the Battle of the Somme
